You can also choose between a ball mouse and an optical mouse. Ball mice are obsolete these days but you can still find some at the store. Because you need to clean these types of mouse frequently — dirt can easily get stuck in between the wheels and hamper movement — you should get an optical mouse.
Software on the other hand is the things that you can’t see. Software is the name given to programs that are installed on the computer, such as Windows XP, Windows 7, Microsoft Word, Adobe Suite and others. Software includes every program that you download from the internet, and play games with or use to do math problems etc.
If you have a choice, consider a Netbook with Windows XP Home Edition. It will run better and have more features than the same Netbook running Windows 7 Starter Edition.
The biggest difference between a Mac and a Windows based PC is the operating system. For a person that has never used a computer before, the Mac OSX would most likely be easier than Windows to learn. It’s very intuitive and designed for ease of use. However, most people have used Windows for years. So there would be a bit of a learning curve. For instance, when using the mouse opening programs does not require a double click and there is only (technically) one mouse button function.
Since Netbooks are not designed for use as a laptop replacement, they have lower speed processors (CPU’s). The CPU chips used for Netbooks not only have slower CPU speeds, the internal CPU bus speeds are slower also. And they are single core processors, instead of the 2 or 4 core processors typically found on new laptops today. All of these differences add up to a slower computing experience.
A CD writer and DVD-ROM drive is usually sold as a combination. You can do it to rip your favorite music files from your CDs, write new files on a CD, and play DVD movies. If you are building a gaming computer, you will need a CD drive at the very least. You will need the CD drive to install and play your PC game Cds.
Warranty. This is your call. I have blogged about Dell’s “CompleteCare” option that covers all repairs including the ones that are your fault. Warranty options can add several hundred dollars to the final tab. But laptop repairs are expensive; do you ordinarily self-insure? computer hardware has a nasty habit of dying within 30 days of warranty expiration – call it Murphy’s Law if you like.
Now go to the applications folder, where you will see all of the hard drive contents. You will be able to see all of the software that you have installed on your computer and this is when you will need to look for the software that you want to remove. You can do this in one of two ways. The first way to uninstall the program is by pressing Ctrl while clicking on the item, which will cause a menu to appear. Within this menu, you will find an option to move the software to the trash. The second option is to physically drag the icon to the trash can, which is on your desktop.
